 | Japanese Silver Grass, Maiden Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus'

One of the oldest and best known, this grass has been used since the Victorian days.  The fine-textured, narrow foliage is green with a delicate white stripe that runs down the center making the blades look even more delicate.

Copper red inflorescences open in feathery tassels in September and become silver white plumes as seeds mature. Flower plumes persist well into winter.  The foliage becomes copper bronze in the fall fading to straw beige for winter.

When the grass is younger it has an upright, arching, vase-shaped form.  As it matures and becomes wider the form is more gracefully rounded and fountain-like.

Is best in full sun as it has tendency to flop in too much shade.  May not flower in regions with cold growing seasons.
