Redwood, Dawn Metasequoia glyptostroboides Magnificent, deciduous, conifer tree that looks like a Sequoia both in growth habit and foliage. Feathery, needle-like foliage is soft, bright green turning reddish brown in fall. A conical tree with a single, straight trunk and horizontal branching. Bark is peeling reddish brown to bright orange. Trunk base is tapered and exhibits a braided, fluted structure. One of the oldest living trees, has been around for over 20 million years. Likes moist, well-drained soil. Very effective screen, for grouping in large areas or for use lining long drives or streets. Zone: 4-8 Fast growing Height: 70-100 ft.
