Iris, Variegated Sweet Iris pallida 'Variegata' This perennial provides a striking contrast in the garden. Bold, sword-shaped leaves are striped creamy white and gray green. Sweetly fragrant pale lavender blue flowers with small yellow beards bloom in late spring, early summer. The flowers are 3-5 inches across and sit atop white, papery bracts about 1 foot above the foliage. The leaves can be evergreen in milder climates. Is both deer and rabbit resistant and has no serious insect or disease problems. Produces the most flowers in full sun, but tolerates shade better than most bearded iris. Adapts to any soil as long as the soil is well-drained. Wet soils can cause root rhizomes to rot. Excellent accent or specimen for borders, foundations, rock gardens. Zone: 3-8 Height: 2-3 ft.
