Phlox, Purple Creeping or Moss
Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue'

Vibrant, intense blooms of small, delicate, star-shaped, lavender blue smother the foliage on this phlox from May into June.  A long and heavy bloomer, it flowers from 2 to 4 weeks or more.

Fine, needle like foliage is glossy, compact, and dark green, and forms a thick mossy-like carpet that hugs the ground.  A spreading, semi-evergreen groundcover that is easy to grow, extremely hardy and is low maintenance.  Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.

Moisture needs are low to average, so it's good for that hot, dry spot. Looks great in borders, for edging, in rock gardens, or in cracks or on tops of walls to cascade.
